English tenor Anthony Rolfe Johnson died last week and I wanted to give my modicum of a tribute. I actually don't know all of his output, but I loved the gentle way that he sang Schubert.
This particular disc changed my whole outlook on how personal Schuert can be, and his thoughtful crafting of the Lied, "Des Fischers Liebesglück," haunts me to this day. What a talent. He lives on in my inner ear.
