A number of people have asked when "Take Shelter" is coming to town.
It will have a single screening during the Three Rivers Film Festival and, I would imagine, return for a regular run somewhere in Pittsburgh. Date and place to be determined.
If you are eager to see Michael Shannon as an Ohio husband and father who starts to have apocalyptic visions, mark this date and place on your calendar: Friday, Nov. 11 at 9:15 p.m. at the Regent Square Theater at 1035 S. Braddock Ave.
It will wrap you into a knot of tension and anxiety, testament to the power of Shannon's performance. And just when you think you can emit a sigh of relief, you will find out otherwise.
Jessica Chastain plays his wife and the mother of their 6-year-old daughter, who is hearing impaired.Shannon's character, Curtis LaForche, begins having terrifying dreams about an encroaching, apocalyptic storm. He chooses to keep the disturbance to himself, channeling his anxiety into the obsessive building of a storm shelter in their backyard.
His seemingly inexplicable behavior concerns and confounds his wife and provokes intolerance among co-workers, friends and neighbors. But the resulting strain on his marriage and tension within the community don't compare to Curtis's privately held fear of what his dreams may truly signify.
