The newest poster for "The Dark Knight Rises" shows the Tom Hardy villain of Bane — from behind — with the tagline, "The Legend Ends." A Batman mask is in the foreground as if he had vanquished, or tried to vanquish, the caped crusader.
As with the others, it's in striking blacks, whites and grays and this scene appears to be in the middle of a snow or rainstorm.
As reported last week, the first seven (not six, as I thought) minutes of the movie being referred to as the prologue will screen at the Carnegie Science Center with "Tornado Alley." Pittsburgh was not on the initial list, so it took some lobbying to get it added and, as for the center, I think it has film capabilities rather than all digital projection and it boasts the largest screen around. Plus, director Christopher Nolan visited it when here in town with his producer-wife and their children.
Entertainment Weekly and various Los Angeles journalists got to see the footage, courtesy of Nolan. EW's Adam B. Vary writes, "Any concern that Nolan would be daunted by topping 'The Dark Knight's' scope and scale will be eradicated after audiences get a look at what he has in store for 'The Dark Knight Rises.' "
Vary and Jeff Jensen talked to Nolan about the introduction of Bane that happens "almost entirely in the air, in a sequence that also features 'Game of Thrones' actor Aiden Gillen and is unlike anything I think I've seen in its go-for-broke ambition."
IMAX fan Nolan said he hopes to use it to restore the grandeur of the movies.
Vary writes: "I feel confident in saying Nolan succeeds in doing just that. I would also suggest that anyone planning on seeing it in theaters do two things: Read these curious documents about a missing Dr. Leonid Pavel that were 'leaked' this week to Wired and Empire. And prepare to scratch your head at much of Bane's dialogue, which had most everyone in Thursday's screening asking each other how much, if anything, they could understand. I did catch one moment, when someone asks Bane if he'll die should his now widely seen mask be removed. Bane's reply: "It would be extremely painful — for you."
Nolan is still editing the film, starring Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman and others, but told EW he estimates 45 to 50 minutes will be in IMAX . That includes the actions sequences — which should mean some of the spectacular fights and other scenes shot in Pittsburgh.
