James Taylor closed the Mellon Arena in June 2010 with Carole King. The folk-rock legend makes his first trip back to town with his band on June 20 at the Petersen Events Center in Oakland. Tickets go on sale Feb. 10 through Ticketmaster. The Pete is hardly the most intimate spot for JT, but it does get people closer than the Consol.
-- Ben Folds must have enjoyed his evening with the Pittsburgh Symphony last February. The witty singer-songwriter-pianist returns for another round on May 25 at Heinz Hall. Tickets are $35 to $95 and go on sale Feb. 27 through www.pittsburghsymphony.org. The last time out, there was some disappointment in the simplicity of the orchestral arrangements, not to mention the lack of enthusiasm of the PSO players. Folds was great, though, and his encores after the PSO were the highlight. Maybe this time it will be better...
-- Rascal Flatts skipped the First Niagara Pavilion last year, but will return Sept. 1 on "The American Band Tour" with Little Big Town, Eli Young Band and Edens Edge. No details yet on ticket sales. The show will likely be part of the Country Megaticket with Lady Antebellum and ... Toby Keith? Jason Aldean?
