Based on what we got last year, I have faith that the promoters who book here -- Opus One, PromoWest Live, Drusky, Elko, Live Nation, CD Live -- are going to come through with good shows in 2012.
That said, we're not exactly off to a booming start. Tis the season for daily emails of tour itineraries, and too many are coming in without Pittsburgh dates.
We already whiffed on the Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Coldplay. Last week, we got stiffed by the Springsteen tour. So far this week, Madonna, Ringo Starr (with Todd Rundgren) and the Ting Tings (pictured) are among the tours skipping Pittsburgh. Throw in Sleigh Bells, as well.
We ARE getting Van Halen, Nickelback, Red Hot Chili Peppers and another "Wall" show (why?) at Consol. And you can expect the usual stuff (every possible country show, Warped, Mayhem) at First Niagara. It will be interesting to see what Stage AE comes up with. So far it has announced Girl Talk and Rise Against, and it looks like an Avett Brothers announcement is coming Tuesday. We're going to need a good season there -- especially with the Trib amphitheater out of commission.
Hopefully, a few of those shows mentioned above (Bruce, Black Keys, Sleigh Bells) will circle back on a second leg.
Meanwhile, kudos to the Warhol for this:
