It was one of those "go big or go home" moments for Washington, Pa.'s Adam Brock, who belted out Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" for American Idol judges on Night 1 of Hollywood Week Wednesday.
"Beautiful, baby," said Jennifer Lopez and with that, viewers of the venerable Fox singing showcase knew Brock, 27, would be moving on to the group performance round. More than 300 singers made it to California, and Thursday's show promises the kind of group drama that reality television producers live for.
Brock, a creative arts director who described his penchant for jazz and blues as having "a large, black woman" somewhere inside him, got big cheers from fellow contestants in the audience. When he Facetimed his wife and baby to say he would be staying in Hollywood for a while longer, his daughter broke into a smile.
