There's nothing in the world like Pennsylvania in the fall. I've been to New England and still say we have better leaves ... because we have great trees and we want it to stay that way. But there is a nasty bug that is fighting to take away our trees and we need to fight back. And the best way to win that fight is by not doing anything.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) beetle has destroyed millions of ash trees over the past couple of years.
And most of this has been caused by the taking of firewood from native forests. That's how it moves from the forest to your neighborhood. It's a very invasive bug so buy your firewood locally ... buy local, burn local. Check out Stopthebeetle.com for more info.
Just like us plants and trees use the fall season to get ready for the winter to come. We buy a new jacket to keep us warm through the cold winds to come. That's what a tree wants and needs to face the same wintry weather.
