So you want to instigate a community garden in your ‘hood? Jump on the bandwagon.
The Vacant Property Working Group is holding a “how to” workshop Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and will have a mess (sorry, it’s bean season) of local community garden practitioners on hand to give you inspiration and information. It’s in the conference room of the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group (the vacant property group is its spawn), 1901 Centre Ave. Suite 200. Light snacks will be provided.

Topics will include how to get the land ready, options for buying, city programming around land revitalization, volunteer and resource management, planting and maintaining a food garden and other technical considerations. Representatives from Grow Pittsburgh, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy; the mayor’s office of neighborhood initiatives, the GreenUp Program and Homewood Community Garden will be there.
