Yes, the summer is waning but Boris Weinstein’s annual fall “redd-up” campaign is heating up, and
he wants you!

The man behind Citizens Against Litter (not the guy in the photo; Uncle Sam's just a stand-in) has almost every city neighborhood and 16 county municipalities signed up for the big event over the weekend of Oct. 15-17, but he believes there can never be too many people picking up after the heedless trashheads among us.
“The fall Redd Up is a full court press against litter,” he said.

Among his merry band are several thousand school children working at their schools with the Stash the Trash program (which focuses on illegal dumpsites) and 3,000 volunteers in Pitt’s “Make a Difference” day.
Participating city neighborhoods are: Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Banksville, Bedford Dwellings, Beechview, Beltzhoover, Bloomfield, Bon Air, Brighton Heights, Brightwood, Brookline, California-Kirkbride, Carrick, Central Northside, Chartiers, Crafton Heights, Crawford Square, Downtown, Duquesne Heights, East Carnegie, East Liberty, Elliott, Esplen, Fineview, Friendship, Garfield, Greenfield, Hays, Hazelwood, Highland Park, Homewood, Lincoln Place, New Homestead, Larimer, Lawrenceville, Lincoln-Lemington, Lincoln Place, Lower Hill, Manchester, Middle Hill, Morningside, Mt. Washington, Mt. Oliver, New Homestead, Oak Hill, Oakwood, Oakland, Observatory Hill, Perry Hilltop, Polish Hill, Ridgemont, Schenley Heights, Shadyside, Sheraden, South Side Slopes, South Side Flats, Squirrel Hill, Spring Garden, Stanton Heights, Strip District, Summer Hill, Troy Hill, Uptown, West End, Westwood and Windgap.
Municipalities outside the city are Baldwin, Dormont, Etna, Fox Chapel, Glassport, Homestead, Indiana, McKees Rocks, Mt. Oliver, Penn Hills, Sharpsburg, South Park, Stowe, West Homestead and Wilkinsburg.
The public works department, the Pennsylvania Resources Council and Allegheny CleanWays provide bags and gloves. Public Works will collect filled litter and trash bags in city neighborhoods.
