Polish Hill’s annual arts festival is next Sunday from noon to 9p. This is a true-blue neighborhood festival that features the work, and food, of locals.
But the music is all over the map. This little neighborhood has got itself a great music gig.
The bands so far, with three more to be secured, are the Brazilian samba drum band Timbeleeza; singer-songwriter Bridgette Perdue; the Panther Hollow String Band, which plays old-time Appalachian dance music; the cover band Moldies & Monsters; the rock trio FOOD, two of whose members live in Polish Hill, and Lungs Face Feet, described on blogski as “a Cumbria-style brass marching band” (and shown here playing at Polish Hill's May Day parade).
You can find more details — which are not all fleshed out yet — here. And this link will give you photos from past years.
Leslie Clague of the Polish Hill Civic Association tells us that the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church will have a food booth among the many vendors and that “residents of all ages are volunteering.”
“Our festival is a quieter, more relaxed situation which is more about hanging out, visiting, listening to music, and participating than about the commerce,” she wrote in an e-mail to Walkabout. “We purposely get a varied mix of music. Our vendors are also a different mix from the usual; we allow space to some quirkier artists and crafts people who might not be accepted into the larger festivals.”
