NBC has a new comedy premiering this fall titled "Outsourced." It is about an American company outsourcing its call center to India. My question is: Why is this subject, which to me is a tragedy, being promoted and endorsed as "comedy"?
In July 2005 (after 20 years), I lost my job. Yes, that's right ... it was indeed outsourced. A tremendous number of people in southwestern Pennsylvania were greatly affected by this closure.
Now it appears the employees of Highmark may experience a similar fate ("Highmark Sending Work to India, Seeking Buyouts," Aug. 14).
So, once again, I ask, "Why is this subject funny?"
Perhaps if the writers and director of "Outsourced" were to have their jobs sent elsewhere, it might not seem so humorous.

They should have made the show about American call centers and the idiot customers who call and ask ridiculous questions and act like the world revolves around them. That scenario is much funnier than an Indian call center featuring an Indian named "Manmeat". Oh well, I'll probably still enjoy the show.
Sucks about your job, but unfortunately that's life these days. Find something else. Get schooling if needed and do your best. Good luck!
