Regarding the Feb. 13 editorial "Map for the Future: An Amateur Redistricts Better Than the Politicians": Hooray for Amanda Holt, the 29-year-old piano teacher/graphic artist who was able to draw a fair and unbiased reapportionment map for Pennsylvania. Cheers also for the judges who praised her plan and rejected the professional politicians' self-serving one.
Ms. Holt should run for office. However, would she remain fair and unbiased? Somehow those two qualities are expounded upon when a sincere new candidate is running for office, but once elected, the idealism is overtaken by the power and perks that turn the idealistic candidate into a professional politician.
Thank you, Ms. Holt, for your initiative to tackle an enormous, important job, which our biased representatives were not able to handle.
