A couple of quick items in the Department of Rabid Black & Gold Fandom ...

No. 1: This piece from the Huffington Post earlier this week about tips when flying indicates that an inordinate number of Steelers fans have an inordinate habit of asking pilots for game updates:

No. 2. The Los Angeles Times sports blog 'The Fabulous Forum' reported on an earlier item that the Dallas Cowboys finished number one in a nationwide survey for the most popular team in America, and wondered which was the most popular team in L.A. -- a massive city without its own franchise.

"Let's put those results to the test. With no home-team bias, we should make a pretty good sample pool. Vote for your favorite team and leave a comment telling us why you voted the way you did ..."

The Steelers destroyed it, taking 51% of the vote -- against all 31 other teams.

No. 3. The "Pay James Harrison's Bogus Fine" Facebook group is near 11,000 and hundreds have fans from around the country and the world have posted pictures -- some quite funny -- of the dollars, pennies, dimes, even Euros they're sending to the Commish to defray Harrison's docked pay.

And, it caught the notice of his teammates:

No 4. I give you the arm-sleeve tattoos/ permanent autograph collection of Mr. Daniel Booth in Virginia.

He's got a full sleeve with 15 Steelers (past and present) autographs that he had signed on his arm with a Sharpie marker, and then tattooed right over.

The collection includes: Steeler all-time great Jerome Bettis, current Steelers Hines Ward, Ike Taylor, Willie Colon, Chris Kemoeatu, Trai Essex, James Farrior, Casey Hampton, Larry Foote, Charlie Batch, Willie Gay, head coach Mike Tomlin, and former Steelers "Fast" Willie Parker and Arnold Harrison.

He said he hopes to get more after the season, at the James Farrior Foundation events he regularly attends (which is how he got mostof them).

He said he has one player in particular in his sights: no. 56.

"I really want Woodley's autograph some kinda bad!" he said.

No. 5. And finally. because it's too funny and I had nowhere else to work it in ... Last week's Sports Illustrated featured Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley in the weekly Pop Culture Grid feature in the Scorecard section of the magazine. In the wake of the Tom Brady/Justin Bieber hair flap, SI asked Woodley: "______ should get a Justin Bieber haircut?"

Woodley's answer: Troy Polamalu.Which is pretty hilarious if you imagine it.

The answer inspired Post-Gazette business reporter and ace photoshopper (cough, cough) Bill Toland created this beaut:
