An occasional blog about the mania of Steelers fans across the globe by P-G online sports editor Dan Gigler. Guide to commenting | Terms of Service |
This post actually has nothing to do with Ike Taylor, but rather is a Steeler-y reference to Wiz Khalifa's Chuck Taylor Converse wearing buddies -- a.k.a. The Taylor Gang.
Seems that an outfit in Cleveland called Proof Culture which makes sneakers with custom artwork has created a positively gorgeous pair of hand-painted Steelers themed Chucks. Yours for a mere $500. Check 'em aht:

More stuff from around the web ...
2. More from Cleveland: Pittsburgh native and Cleveland FOX 8 reporter Melissa Reid files this report comparing tailgating at Browns games to that at Steelers games. Naturally the Cleveland station puts the Brownies on top. It's entirely possible that's true, but I couldn't say. I've never been to a Browns game.
Regardless, the quote from a drunk bro at the end pretty much sums up the state of Browns football: "Tailgating at Browns games is the win before the loss."
Brilliant.
Here's the uncut Steelers portion of Reid's story:
3. WTAE's Sally Wiggin files this report about the Terrible Towel twirling Pittsburgh traffic cop which references the legendary Vic Cianca:
Here's video of the late, great Cianca.
Also, here's a Warholified Sally Wiggin. Kinda creepy.
4. Big Ben's performance Thursday night might not have been the gutsiest in the history of sports, but it's up there. And could very justifiably be added to this list.
5. Headline on the digital edition of El Universal in Mexico City (the Steelers have a huge following in Mexico): Ben Roethlisberger es de acero -- translated literally as "Ben Roethlisberger is steel." Sounds about right. The caption says HÉROE. A Ben Roethlisberger no le importó esa lesión en el tobillo y salió a ganar -- and in the fun-with-things-lost-in-translation-department, according to Google Language Tools, that translates literally as "HERO. Ben Roethlisberger did not mind that ankle injury and went on to win." ... I don't think he 'did not mind' the injury.

6. $2 to meet Polamalu? A nationwide raffle to win an all-expenses paid trip to the Steelers-Rams game and to meet Troy Polamalu after the game, and get an autographed Polamalu jersey costs $2 per chance, which is not a bad deal at all. The nationwide contest is to benefit FOCUS North America -- a faith-based charity that Troy and Theodora Polamalu are supporting to help alleviate poverty in America,
7. This is how you do local p.r. ... if you're the kind of multinational bank that arouses ire on both the left and the right:
That's a (lousy) picture of the BNY-Mellon building in Downtown Pittsburgh last night, with it's giant LED logo fashioned into a makeshift Steelers' hypocycloids logo, with the colors in the correct gold-red-blue order. Pretty cool.
8. Spotted in the window of Slacker on the South Side: 4 Nolls, 1 Cowher & 1 Tomlin (get it?) and "Charlie backs it up" ... only in Pittsburgh would a backup quarterback get an ironic t-shirt made for him.

9. Donate a toy, meet the Steelers. Per a release: Members of the Pittsburgh Steelers, including LaMarr Woodley, Ziggy Hood, Dennis Dixon and this year a Special Guest Player will lead the toy drive from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday Dec. 12, at The Mall at Robinson.
The players will sign autographs in exchange for the donation of a new, unwrapped toy (valued at $10 or more) to benefit Children’s Child Life Department. The toy drive will be located on the upper level of The Mall at Robinson, near Macy’s, and all toys and any additional donations from the two-hour event will benefit Children’s, a nationally recognized pediatric hospital. One autograph per player and no photographs with the players.
10. Finally ... Fan Fiction exists for the ridiculous FOX football robot which is apparently named Cleatus. Weird.
