There has been a veil of secrecy -- for some reason, I don't exactly get why -- around the hiring of an assistant basketball coach at Duquesne to replace Scott Rigot, who resigned in June and left an opening on the staff.
I have been in contact with one of the candidates, and he seems as puzzled as I am, as to why the search has trudged along for this long.
Then today, in sort of a passing mention in the The Register-Herald, a Beckley, W.Va., the following graph appears in a story: "Rodney Crawford, who coached the team last year, took an assistant coaching position at Duquesne."
I know Dave Morrison, the man who wrote that story. He's a good reporter; he gets things right. So, that said, looks like Rodney Crawford will be the new assistant at Duquesne.
What I still don't get is the veil of secrecy around all of this. This news was discovered, just like when Bill Barton left, just like the non-conference games for next year that are showing up on other team's schedule, from the other side of the transaction.
Long story short: Looks like Rodney Crawford is the new assistant and I just do not understand why there hasn't been an announcement yet. Why is this so much of a secret?
