One key to the Duke’s 2-0 win streak is much better rebounding from this group.

Duquense didn’t win the boards at Dayton, but the margin was much closer.

• Dayton had 33 total, Duquesne 31.
• Dayton: 10 offensive rebounds, 23 defensive rebounds.
• Duquesne: 10 offensive rebounds, 21 defensive rebounds.

Saturday against Richmond – which had a major height advantage - Duquesne won the boards 39-31 with its guards picking up a lot of them.

• Duquesne: 14 offensive rebounds, 25 defensive rebounds
• Richmond: 6 offensive rebounds, 25 defensive rebounds

I asked Ron Everhart after the game about what he attributes this too, and here is his answer.

“Right now our kids are understanding how to get to the ball. We’ve got Jerry flying through there. T.J., Eric running through there trying to collect it. I’m happy we’ve found our niche in that regard,” said Everhart. “Our kids are starting to develop a nose for the ball so to speak. From a coaching standpoint it’s something you preach. But really until you figure that out, get that game feel for it.”

Note, the Dukes are still ranked second to last in rebounding margin in the A-10 at minus-5.8.

Richmond is dead last at minus-6.7 but Dayton is ranked second at plus-3.2.
