Penguins

-Even if he loves Wilkes-Barre, Mark Letestu (above) doesn't want to spent the season there.

-Bob Errey was in midseason form Saturday:

-There's a pretty fierce battle for the last two defensemen spots in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton as well.

-Forward Chris Collins has been impressive so far at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's training camp.

-Happy 73rd birthday to former Penguins forward Wally Boyer (right). Acquired in the 1968 offseason in a deal which sent Al MacNeil to the Canadiens, Boyer spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins. In 1968-69, he appeared in 62 games and scored 29 points. He followed that up in 1969-70 by playing in 72 games and scoring 23 points. In that spring's postseason, he saw action in 10 games and scored three points. Boyer scored a career-high 41 points and played in 68 games while playing primarily on line with Andy Bathgate and Greg Polis in 1970-71. HIs final season in Pittsburgh was 1971-72. He was limited to one game and no points. In the 1972 offseason, he joined the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA. In 203 games with the Penguins, Boyer scored 94 points, 81st-most in franchise history.

-Happy 75th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Al MacNeil. Claimed from the Rangers in the 1967 expansion draft, MacNeil's Penguins' career amounted to 74 games and 12 points during the franchise's innagural season in 1967-68. In the 1968 offseason, he was traded to the Canadiens in exchange for Wally Boyer. Midway through 1970-71, MacNeil was named coach of the Canadiens and later that season, became the first mid-season replacement coach to win the Stanley Cup.

-Happy 52nd birthday to former Penguins forward Paul Mulvey. Late in the 1981 offseason, Mulvey was transferred to the Penguins as compensation for the Capitals signing Orest Kindrachuk. Mulvey's Penguins' career amounted to 27 games and eight point in 1981-82. Midway through that season, he was claimed off waivers by the Kings.

Atlantic Division

-Islanders defenseman Mark Streit (right) is expected to miss six months due to a torn labrum and torn rotator cuff.

-The Flyers demoted forwards Greg Moore, Luke Pither, Matt Clackson, Garrett Klotz, Pat Maroon, Tye McGinn, Zac Rinaldo, Andrew Rowe, Shane Harper, Stefan Legein, defensemen Chad Denny, Jesse Dudas, Cullen Eddy, Dan Jancevski, Logan Stephenson, J.P. Testwuide, goaltenders Nic Riopel and Brian Stewart to Adirondack of the AHL, returned defensemen Ricard Blidstrand (Regina - WHL), Brendan Ranford (Kamloops - WHL),  Tyler Hostetter (Erie, OHL), forwards Michael Chaput (Lewiston - QMJHL), David Labrecque (Shawinigan - QMJHL) to their junior teams and released defensemen Ryan Lannon and Joe Piskula.

Northeast Division

-Brendon Nash had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens who edged the Wild, 4-3. Max Pacioretty added two assists for Montreal while Alex Auld (above) made 11 saves to earn the win. Antti Miettinen led Minnesota with two assists.

-The Bruins are considering placing forward Marc Savard (head) on long-term injured reserve. If they take that route, his $4.007 million salary cap hit would be off the books.

-The Maple Leafs demoted goaltenders Jussi Rynnas, Ben Scrivens, defensemen Keith Aulie, Mike Brennan, Simon Gysbers, Korbinian Holzer, Juraj Mikus, forwards Jerry D’Amigo, Brayden Irwin, Marcel Mueller, Greg Scott, Robert Slaney to Toronto of the AHL, returned forwards Sam Carrick (Brampton- OHL), Brad Ross (Portland - WHL), Andrew Crescenzi (Kitchener - OHL) and defenseman Jesse Blacker (Owen Sound - OHL), to their junior teams and released former Penguins forward Wayne Primeau.

 Southeast Division

-The Hurricanes demoted forwards Jon Matsumoto, Riley Nash, Jerome Samson, Jared Staal and defenseman Bryan Rodney to Charlotte of the AHL.

-The Lightning demoted forwards Mike Angelidis, Alex Berry, Mitch Fadden, Mitch Fritz, Stefano Giliati, Alex Hutchings, Blair Jones, Niklas Persson, Juraj Simek, Paul Szczechura, James Wright, defensemen Mark Barberio, Radko Gudas, Scott Jackson, Vladimir Mihalik, Kevin Quick, Ty Wishart, goaltenders Jaroslav Janus and Dustin Tokarski to Norfolk of the AHL and released forwards Matt Fornataro and Tim Marks.

Central Division

-Brian Rafalski had a goal and three assists for the Red Wings in a 5-3 win against the Rangers. Dan Cleary, Tomas Holmstrom and Henrik Zetterberg each added a goal and an assist for Detroit while Jimmy Howard made 18 saves in the victory.

-Ben Bishop made 29 saves for the Blues in a 2-0 shutout of the Avalanche. Brad Boyes led St. Louis with a goal and an assist.

-The Blackhawks demoted forward Chris DiDomenico and defenseman Shawn Lalonde to Rockford of the AHL.

-The Blue Jackets demoted forwards Kyle Neuber, Chris Francis, Tyler Murovich, defensemen Michael Ratchuk and Dalton Prout to Springfield of the AHL.

-The Predators demoted forwards Gabriel Bourque, Ryan Flynn, Mark Santorelli, Ryan Thang, defensemen Jonathon Blum, Roman Josi and goaltender Jeremy Smith to Milwaukee of the AHL and released forwards Chris Mueller, Mark Van Guilder, defensemen Scott Ford and Scott Lehman.

-The Blues demoted defensemen Daryl Boyle, Mark Cundari, forwards Anthony Peluso, Philip McRae, Anthony Nigro, Tyler Shattock, Stefan Della Rovere, goaltenders Jake Allen and Gerald Coleman to Peoria of the AHL and returned defensemen Brett Ponich (Portland - WHL), David Shields (Erie- OHL), forwards Cody Beach (Calgary - WHL), Stephen MacAulay (Saint John - QMJHL) and Chris DeSousa (London - OHL) to the junior teams.

Northwest Division

-Jordan Eberle and Shawn Horcoff each had two goals and an assist for the Oilers in an 8-2 rout of the Canucks. Dustin Penner added two goals for Edmonton while teammate Linus Omark contributed a goal and two assists. Nikolai Khabibulin (above), playing in his first game of any type since Nov. 19, made 26 saves in the win.

-The Avalanche demoted goaltenters John Grahame, Jason Bacashihua, defenseman Cameron Gaunce and forward Luke Walker to Lake Erie of the AHL and returned Stefan Elliott to (Saskatoon - WHL) to his junior team.

Pacific Division

-The Stars demoted goaltender Richard Bachman, Tyler Beskorowany, forward Sean Backman, Luke Gazdic, Tristan King, Scott McCulloch, Michael Neal, Greg Rallo, Ondrej Roman, Raymond Sawada, Colton Sceviour, Matt Tassone, Mathieu Tousignant, defenseman Jordie Benn, Trevor Ludwig and Guillaume Monast to Texas of the AHL, placed forwards Aaron Gagnon, Travis Morin, Francis Wathier defensemen Maxime Fortunus and Brad Lukowich on waivers, returned defensemen Jace Coyle (Medicine Hat Tigers- WHL) to his junior team and released forward Jonathan Cheechoo.

-The Ducks demoted forwards Trevor Smith, MacGregor Sharp, goaltender Timo Pielmeier and defenseman Jake Newton to Syracuse of the AHL, returned goaltender Igor Bobkov (London - OHL) to his junior team and released forward Stephane Veilleux.

-The Sharks demoted defensemen Justin Braun, forwards Dan DaSilva, Andrew Desjardins, Kevin Henderson, Tony Lucia, James Marcou, Cory Quirk, Steven Zalewski, goaltenders Carter Hutton and Alex Stalock to Worcester of the AHL and returned Harri Sateri to Tampere in Finland.

Adams Division

-Former Red Wings/Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Dandenault announced his retirement.

-Today would've been the 124th birthday of Tommy Smith, a goaltender with the Pittsburgh Lyceum of the Western Pennsylvania Hockey League. Lyceum, a star with teams in the NHA, the precursor to the NHL, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1973.
