Penguins

-Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post spotted a brand new non-black and gold logo for HBO's "24/7" series involving the Penguins and Capitals:

-The Mario Lemieux Foundation is planning an Austin's Playroom - a playroom for children either in hospitals as patients or visitors - at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

-Maxime Talbot is good people:

-Happy 40th birthday to former Penguins forward Bill Guerin. Acquired at the 2009 trade deadline in a deal which sent a draft pick to the Islanders, Guerin spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. Guerin finished 2008-09 by appearing in 17 games and scoring 12 points. In the 2009 postseason, he played in all 24 games, finished third on the team with 15 points and helped the franchise claim its third Stanley Cup title. He returned in 2009-10 and saw action in 78 games while scoring 45 points. He played in 11 games in that spring's playoffs and scored nine points. During this past offseason, Guerin joined the Flyers on a tryout basis but failed to make the team out of training camp. He is currently an unrestricted free agent.

Atlantic Division

-The Flyers signed forward Claude Giroux to a three-year contract extension worth $11.25 million. He will have a salary cap hit worth $3.75 million.

-The Rangers demoted forward Evgeny Grachev to Hartford of the AHL while forward Marian Gaborik (shoulder) was given medical clearance for practice.

-The Devils placed forward Zach Parise (knee) on injured reserve, activated defenseman Matt Corrente (hand) from injured reserve and recalled forward Mattias Tedenby from Albany of the AHL.

-The Islanders forward Zenon Konopka (right) is dealing with a foot ailment.

Northeast Division

-The Canadiens officially placed Dustin Boyd on waivers.

-The Senators demoted forward Zack Smith to Binghamton of the AHL.

-The Bruins placed forward Brian McGrattan on waivers.

Southeast Division

-With defenseman Freddy Meyer ("mid-body") activated from injured reserve, the Thrashers demoted former Penguins defenseman Noah Welch to Chicago of the AHL.

-Lightning forward and former Penguin Dominic Moore (groin) is expected to resume practicing after missing five games.

-Panthers forward Cory Stillman (rotator cuff) resumed practicing.

-Defenseman Mike Green's return from a shoulder injury has sparked a four-game winning streak for the Capitals.

Central Division

-An overtime goal by Henrik Zetterberg gave the Red Wings a 3-2 win against the Coyotes. Jimmy Howard (above) made 29 saves in the victory.

-Zetterberg's goal:

-The Blackhawks demoted forward Jeremy Morin to Rockford of the AHL.

-The Blues demoted forward Nick Drazenovic to Peoria of the AHL.

Pacific Division

-The Kings are dinged up. Defenseman Willie Mitchell is expected to be sidelined four to six weeks due to a wrist ailment while former Penguins forward Alexei Ponikarovsky (right) is expected to miss approximately four weeks on account of a finger injury.

Smythe Division

-Former North Stars/Capitals/Red Wings/Lightning/Panthers forward Dino Ciccarelli, Red Wings executive executive Jimmy Devellano, Team Canada forward Angela James, Team USA forward Cammi Granato and the late Daryl "Doc" Seaman, owner of the Flames, were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night.

-Former Whalers/Hurricanes/Avalanche/Lightning/Sabres defenseman Nolan Pratt has joined Lukko of SM-liiga in Finland.
