Bruins forward and former Penguin Mark Recchi (above) broke through on an early-season slump with a three point effort last night.
His spurt in points moved him closer towards a fairly exclusive group of NHL players.
With six more points and two additional penalty minutes, he'll be only the fifth player in league history to reach the plateaus of 1,500 points and 1,000 penalty minutes:

Disclaimer: Please don't mistake this as some veiled attempt to make the case that the Penguins screwed up by letting Recchi go. That's water under the bridge. We're just stats geeks and we're crunching the numbers on one of the better players in team history.
Plus, it was a easy list to put together and trying to do the math on the Penguins quagmire of a defense would require a team of MIT professors. Or at least RIT.
