Penguins

-Dave Molinari's recap from last night's game. The Penguins now have 11 consecutive wins, the second-longest streak in franchise history.

-Tangradi has nine points in his last seven games.

-Happy 39th birthday to former Penguins forward Petr Nedved (right). Acquired in the 1995 offseason along with Sergei Zubov in a deal which sent Luc Robitaille and Ulf Samuelsson to the Rangers, Nedved spent two seasons with the Penguins. In 1995-96, Nedved saw action in 80 games and scored 99 points good enough only fourth place on the team. The 1996 postseason saw Nedved appear in 18 games and score 20 points, including one of the most memorable postseason goals in franchise history, a game-winner in the fourth overtime of a 3-2 win against the Capitals in Game 4 of an Eastern Conference quarterfinal series (below). He followed that up in 1996-97 by playing in 74 games and scoring 71 points. He played in five postseason games that spring and scored three points. After missing all of 1997-98 and part of 1998-99 due to a contract dispute, Nedved was traded back to the Rangers along with Chris Tamer and Sean Pronger in exchange for Alex Kovalev and Harry York. In 154 regular season games for the Penguins, Nedved scored 170 points, 40th-most in franchise history. In 23 postseason games, Nedved scored 23 points. He is currently the captain of HC Liberec of the Czech Extraliga in the Czech Republic.

-Happy 75th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Noel Price. Claimed from the Canadiens in the 1967 expansion draft, Price spent parts of two seasons in Pittsburgh. During the Penguins innagural season of 1967-68, Price appeared in 70 games and scored 33 points. In 1968-69, Price saw action in 73 games and scored 20 points. During the 1969 offseason, the Kings claimed him in a reverse draft. In 143 regular seasons games for the Penguins, Price scored 53 points.

-Happy 65th birthday to former Penguins forward Nick Libett. Acquired in the 1979 offseason, Libett spent parts off two seasons with the Penguins. In 1979-80, Libett saw action in 78 games and scored 26 points. During the 1980 postseason, he appeared in five games and scored two points. He followed that up in 1980-81 by playing in 43 games and scoring 12 points. He was released in the 1981 offseason. In 121 regular season games with the Penguins, Libett scored 38 points.

Atlantic Division

-The Devils will start renting out iPads for all 23 of their fans at the Prudential Center.

Northeast Division

-Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart (right) will be sidelined six weeks due to fractured bone in his hand.

-The Bruins recalled defenseman Steven Kampfer from Providence of the AHL.

-Canadiens forward Scott Gomez is dealing with an "upper-body" injury.

-Senators coach Cory Clouston sort of, kind of called out former Penguins forward Alex Kovalev.

Southeast Division

-Lightning forward Steven Stamkos hasn't scored a goal in six consecutive games.

-With defenseman Jeff Schultz sidelined for a few weeks due to a broken thumb, the Capitals are going to expect quite a bit out of new defenseman Scott Hannan.

-Former Hurricanes/Avalanche/Capitals/Maple Leafs forward Bates Battaglia has joined the Rochester Americans, the Panthers' AHL affiliate, on a tryout agreement.

Central Division

-Anders Lindback made 35 saves for the Predators in a 3-2 win at Detroit. Pavel Datsyuk had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings how have loss three consecutive games.

-A goal and an assist each by captain Jonathan Toews and Bryan Bickell led the Blackhawks to a 5-3 win against the Stars. Teammates Dave Bolland and Duncan Keith each recorded two assists while Corey Crawford made 28 saves in the victory. Loui Eriksson and James Neal each netted a goal and an assist for Dallas.

-Stars captain Brenden Morrow used defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson to remove some glass at the United Center:

-Stars coach Marc Crawford ripped the officials after his team got one power play to the Blackhawks' six.

-The Blackhawks placed former Penguins forward Marian Hossa ("lower body") on injured reserve and recalled forwards Jeremy Morin and Rob Klinkhammer from Rockford of the AHL.

-The Red Wings demoted defenseman Jakub Kindl to Grand Rapids of the AHL for conditioning purposes.

-The Blues and Blue Jackets face each other for the first time since a pre-game confrontation Nov. 10.

Northwest Division

-Jeff Tambellini's shootout goal gave the Canucks a thrilling 5-4 comeback win against the Ducks. Ryan Kesler had two goals and an assist in regulation for Vancouver while teammate Christian Ehrhoff recorded two assists. Roberto Luongo made 16 saves in the victory. Corey Perry and Teemu Selanned each netted a goal and an assist in regulation for Anaheim.

-Ducks goaltender Curtis McElhinney left the game after a goal by Vancouver's Daniel Sedin when he took an Ehrhoff shot in the face:

-The Oilers recalled forwards Ryan O’Marra and Linus Omark from Oklahoma City of the AHL.

-Speaking of Oklahoma City, Oilers prospect Jeff Drouin-Deslaurier went nuts on Houston Aeros forward Jon DiSalvatore in a recent game:

-The Flames placed former Penguins forward Ryan Stone on waivers.

-Heritage Classic tickets, the NHL's other outdoor game, go on sale Friday.

Pacific Division

-Shootout goals by Logan Couture and Ryane Clowe gave the Sharks a controversial 5-4 win at Philadelphia. Clowe and teammate Jason Demers each had a goal and an assist in regulation while Antero Niittymaki made 31 saves in the victory. Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Ville Leino each netted a goal and an assist in regulation for the Flyers.

-A would-be overtime goal by Flyers forward Daniel Briere was wiped out when replays showed the puck crossing the goal line just as time expired:

-The Worcester Sharks, San Jose's AHL affiliate, re-signed forward Jonathan Cheechoo to a 25-game pro tryout contract.

-The Ducks activated forward Aaron Voros (illness) from injured reserve and demoted forward Matt Beleskey to Syracuse of the AHL.

-Stars forward Jere Lehtinen (right) officially announced his retirement. Lehtinen, who won the Selke Trophy three times as the NHL's to defensive forward, spent his entire 14-year career with the Stars franchise. In 875 games, Lehtinen had 243 goals, 271 assists and 514 points.

-With goaltender Kari Lehtonen dealing with a "lower-body" ailment, the Stars recalled goaltender Richard Bachman from Texas of the AHL.

Adams Division

-Former Senators/Thrashers defenseman Christoph Schubert has joined the Hamburg Freezers of the DEL in Germany.

-Former Pittsburgh Hornets forward Vic Lynn passed away. He was 85.

I know Sid's been playing well but there's quite a difference between scoring 22 of the 37 goals and being involved with 22 of the 37 goals. Not sure why The Toronto Star wouldn't make that distinction
