FSN Pittsburgh will be re-branded as ROOT Sports in the spring according to a press release posted on the network's Facebook page.
FSN Northwest in Seattle and FSN Rocky Mountain in Denver will also take on the new brand name.
According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, the name change will not impact the coverage of local teams.

R O O T ? huh? what? what does that even mean? Can TSN or Sportsnet create a US network please? This is getting worse and worse. What is the R O O T exactly?
Seriously, the Pens need to get their on PPV cable/satellite station. Like the Leafs have Leafs TV. Something like $5-$10 a month al a carte. I know that's asking for a miracle, but whatever. All HD, all Pens. They already have their own radio station and I'm sure a TV network would sell here.

I think they said something about extensive market research... I guess this should show you what market research gets you. I'm sure that DirecTV has some kind of contractual obligation to stop using "FSN" at some point. But why not call it "Steel City Sports" or something like that? (Denver could be Rocky Mountain Sports Network" and Seattle could be "90% Chance of Showers Sports."

It might not affect the programming, but it surely affects my ability to take this crew seriously, especially after they gutted all the local talent and local shows from the network. I guess calling themselves the r**t, puts them where they deserve to be---under the ground.
