Penguins forward Mike Comrie (above) underwent hip surgery and is expected to be sidelined three to four months.

Comrie was initially injured the first game of the season, Oct. 7. He has not played since a 1-0 win in Buffalo, Nov. 24. In 16 games this season, Comrie recorded five assists.

Comrie, 30, had a strong preseason while playing primarily on the second line with Evgeni Malkin. In four preaseason games, Comrie had five poitns (four goals, one assist).

A free agent signing this past offseason, Comrie is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

EN Says: That stinks. Comrie did have some chemistry with Malkin in the preseason and they certainly created some scoring chance in that first game against the Flyers Oct. 7. You have to wonder if Malkin's numbers would be a little healthier if Comrie had been able-bodied this season.

Well that partially explains why his numbers disappeared after such a strong run in the preseason. Too bad, I think he could have used a solid statistical year to get a multi-year deal out of another club next season. For now he will continue to be more famous for who he is married to...

Let's hope he's out for just three and can come back to add some useful depth for the playoff run. I hear Pronger's going to be rested up as well so we'll need all the firepower we can muster to keep on 1975in'.

Right on bastage. Pens could easily be down a man or two come playoff time and maybe he can step in and contribute. Hip can sometimes be a pain in the butt to come back from so hopefully surgery and rehab go well. Hindsight is 20/20, but it would have been nice if he had the surgery in October. I'm sure it was a situation where they hoped it would heal on its own though, can't blame a guy for wanting to avoid surgery.
