-It turns out Wednesday's scrap between Brent Johnson and Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro comes with an automatic $200 fine for each player over leaving the crease.

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recalled goaltender Patrick Killeen and forward Ben Street from the Wheeling Nailers.
-Happy 25th birthday to current Penguins forward Mark Letestu. A free agent signing late in the 2006-07 season, Letestu has spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 2009-10, he appeared in 10 games and scored one goal. He saw action in four playoff games last season and recorded on assist. This season, Letestu has played in 50 games and has scored 20 points. In 60 games with the Penguins, he has 21 points.
-Dainius Zubrus had a goal and an assist for the Devils in a 3-2 defeat of the rival Rangers. Martin Brodeur made 25 saves in the victory. New Jersey is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games.
-This game had a thrilling finish when a shot by New York's Dan Girardi hit off the far post with less than two seconds left:
-The win moved the Devils past the Oilers and out of last place overall in the NHL.

-Tampa Bay goaltender Mike Smith cleared waivers and was demoted to Norfolk of the AHL.
-The Blue Jackets recalled defenseman John Moore from Springfield of the AHL. Moore was a first-round pick in 2009.
-Blues defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo resumed practicing for the first time since suffering an eye injury Jan. 18.
-A goal and an assist by defenseman Mark Giordano led the Flames to a 4-2 win at Atlanta. Miikka Kiprusoff made 22 saves in the victory which was Calagary's sixth in a row. Evander Kane recorded two assists for the Thrashers.
-Atlanta's Anthony Stewart was popular with at least one fan:

-The Flames won in Atlanta for the first time since leaving that city to relocate to Calgary in 1980.
-Andrew Brunette scored two goals for the Wild in a 4-3 win at Colorado. Pierre-Marc Bouchard added a goal and an assist for Minnesota while captain Miikko Koivu added two assists. Jose Theodore made 38 saves in the victory against his former team. Milan Hejduk scored two goals for the Avalanche.
-The Canucks demoted defenseman Sami Salo to Manitoba of the AHL for a conditioning assignment.
-Oilers forward Taylor Hall is downplaying any suggestion he has a personal rivalry with Kings defenseman Drew Doughty.
-J.P. Barry, the agent for free agent goaltender Ray Emery, said the Ducks have inquired about his client.
-“When you start losing the best players in the game, like a Marc Savard, like a (Patrice) Bergeron, like Sidney Crosby, for extended periods of time, holy God, get your head out of the sand, wake up.
