After Wednesday's game, Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro said he was "good" in regards to his health following a run in with the left fist of Penguins goaltender Brent Johnson.

Today, it was revealed DiPietro will be sidelined four to six weeks due to facial fractures and swelling in his chronically injured knee.

DiPietro told Arthur Staple of Newsday, "You don’t really ever want a broken face to be the reason you get extra rest."

With regards to the Penguins and tonight's game against the Sabres, not surprisingly, Evgeni Malkin has returned to the teams top line at this morning's skate:

Chris Kunitz - Evgeni Malkin - Pascal Dupuis
Matt Cooke - Jordan Staal - Tyler Kennedy
Mike Rupp - Maxime Talbot - Craig Adams
Eric Tangradi - Dustin Jeffrey - Chris Conner/Eric Godard

DiPietro has played in 302 NYI regular season games since 02/03, MAF has played in 342 regular season games since 03/04. Plus MAF has 62 playoff games to 10 for Dipietro, and one giant Stanly Cup ring to zero.

DiPietro has a history of having a "glass body," not just "glass hands." Suppose that he "turtled" or even totally backed away from Johnson to avoid needless injury. Would we be calling him a coward? Heck, I think Cooke did more to hit DiPietro than DiPietro did to Cooke...there was no reason for Cooke to skate through the crease, especially in the dying seconds of the game, so it's not like DiP was looking to start something he couldn't finish. It's too bad, because when DiPietro is healthy and in a groove, he is at least the second-best American goalie next to Ryan Miller.

JBM, don't know what game you were watching, but check out any of the available clips. DP was out of his crease and initiated the contact as Cooke was skating by. don't give me this was Cooke's fault BS.

Scurry13, I did check out the clip, and many times. DiPietro was inches (if that), not feet, from the edge of his crease. Cooke could easily have avoided him. As bad a skater as I am, I could have avoided hitting DiPietro; these guys are pros and tout how they can turn on a dime. Let's not let our allegiance to our team (and I am glad Cooke is one of ours) blind us to the truth.
