Michal Neuvirth's 22-save effort in yesterday's 3-0 win against the Penguins broke a nealy two decades-long streak for the Capitals. It was their first regular season shutout against the Penguins since Don Beaupre made 26 saves in an 8-0 victory Oct. 29, 1991.

The streak was the fifth longest in terms of shutout droughts against the Penguins. Here's the other 29 team in the NHL listed by their last shutout against the Penguins:

-Notes:

-Dion's shutout is the only against the Penguins in the history of the Avalanche/Nordiques franchise.

-The last shutout against the Penguins by the defunct Barons/Seals/Golden Seals franchise was a 22-save effort by Cleveland's Gerry Edwards in a 0-0 tie, Feb. 3, 1977.

Durn it. I read the headline, and was hoping this might be Crosby-recovery related. I'm beginning to fear Sid has suffered something beyond a concussion that the team is not talking about (someting spinal?). Just thinking out loud here....

I'm with you Patrick. Not to get all conspiracy theory on it, but it's starting to seem like there is something we're not being told about his injury. Of course that is the team's right and that is what they are supposed to do, but Sid's recovery is going very slowly. It's been over a month since the initial hit and there just doesn't seem to be much progress being made. But I'd rather they be overly cautious than rush him back. Hindsight is 20/20, but maybe playing against the Lightning wasn't such a good idea.

They said on TSN that Crosby won't be back until Mar, if that. If the Pens play any good teams they probably won't be winning too many of them. I know they are like 8-4 w/o Crosby, but they aren't those teams were Buf, NYR, NYI, etc. Not playoff teams.

It is going to be tough for Shero. If Crosby is not coming back this year they won't get past the 1st round probably. But do you trade away some of the UFA's like Dupius, Rupp or import some guys (from what team I have no idea) to help the team? If they know Crosby is not coming back I would trade some away, at least the ones you don't want to bring back.

He'll be back at some point. I think they're just being cautious. Be real nice to see him make some progress though...

Look up David Perron. It will throw some perspective on Sid's concussion. It takes time, they're being cautious.

Crosby will definitely be back. All the rumors flying around are just that. As far as TSN goes, they ought to change their name to TMZ instead...

Might end up being a situation where he comes back with 10 games left to shake off the rust for the playoffs. They are 4th in the East with a 14 point lead over 8th spot. Without him they don't catch Philly, but can tread enough water to stay in the playoffs. They are still 2nd in the league in goals allowed. It won't be as exciting to watch, but they can still get this thing done.
