Three New York Islanders - Trevor Gillies, Zenon Konopka and Matt Martin - are scheduled to have disciplinary hearing with NHL officials in Buffalo tonight prior to their team's game with the Sabres tomorrow (PG+).

All three players had prominent roles in last night's fight-filled 9-3 win against the Penguins.

Gillies injured Penguins forward Eric Tangradi in the third period with an elbow to the head and continues to attack Tangradi who was in a prone position. Gillies then taunted Tangradi, who was receiving attention from athletic trainer Chris Stewart, from the ramp to the New York locker room.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, Konopka may have made an illegal line change at one point in the game. He attempted to fight Penguins forward Maxime Talbot in the third period and received a roughing minor and a 10-minute misconduct.

Martin was kicked out of the game in the second period when he attempted to punch Talbot at center ice during play. Martin received a game misconduct, a 10-minute misconduct, a fighting major and a two-minute instigator.

Beyond Eric Godard's automatic 10-game suspension for leaving the bench to fight Islanders forward Micheal Haley, there is no word yet on any other supplemental discipline for the Penguins.

In an e-mail to the Toronto Star about how long it would take to review everything, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said, "In due course."

Other notes:

-On his suspension, Godard said, "Ten games is pretty long, especially when we’re in a tough spot right now with a lot of guys out. Yes, I regret it, but no, I’m going to try to defend my teammates. I’m kind of torn with that."

-Eric Tangradi did not skate at today's practice which was held in New York's Central Park.

-Speaking of which, as if the past 24 hours could not have been any more absurd, the Penguins attempt at practicing today was nearly derailed when their bus to the park hit a car. Since Capuano is not being talked to (publicly), I think it's more an indication of the complete lack of control he has over his players, rather than a sinister plan put in place by the coaching staff. Which is no less damning of their awful organization.

First off, that picture is AWESOME!

If it wasn't a sinister plot by the coaches, well I think better of him as a person, but no better of him as a coach.

I'm sure Capuano didn't want things getting out of hand to the degree that they did. But somebody made the call to bring up Haley, who had one purpose last night which was to cause as much damage as possible.
