"Twenty Years Later" is a segment with a highly unimaginative name which will appear on Empty Netters throughout the 2010-11 season. We will examine the Penguins' 1990-91 season which led to the first Stanley Cup title in franchise history. We will look back on games on a particular date and catch up with former players, coaches, executives and media members who were a part or around that team.

Today, we look at the Penguins' 11-4 defeat of the Islanders, Feb. 21, 1991.

Just over four minutes later at 8:28, right winger Gary Leeman gave the Maple Leafs a 2-0 lead on another power play goal off assists from defenseman Michel Petit and Damphousse.

At the 3:17 mark of the second period, left winger Mike Krushelnyski put Toronto up 3-0 with a shorthanded goal. Right winger Lucien DeBlois recorded the lone assist.

Exactly seven minutes later at 10:17, right winger Mark Recchi got the Penguins on the scoreboard with a power play goal against goaltender Peter Ing. Assists went to defenseman Larry Murphy and center Mario Lemieux.

Less than a minute later at 10:48, defenseman Randy Hiller scored his second goal of the season to make it 3-2. Center John Cullen had the lone assist.

A goal at 12:02 by left winger Bob Errey tied it, 3-3. Lemieux had the only assist.

Just over half a minute later at 12:38, Lemieux put the Penguins up 4-3 with a goal against goaltender Jeff Reese. Assists went to Recchi and Errey.

At 16:21, left winger Troy Loney scored his second goal of the season against Ing to make it 5-3 off an assist from center Bryan Trottier.

Right winger Scott Young piled it on for the Penguins at 17:26 with a goal to make it 6-3. The only assist was credited to Cullen.

A goal by Mike Foligno at 18:02 made it 6-4. Assists went to Scott Thornton and Krushelnyski.

Defenseman Zarley Zalapski put the Penguins up 7-4 at 8:09 of the third period with a goal against Reese off assists from Lemieux and Recchi.

Less than a minute later at 9:03, Cullen scored an unassisted goal.

It took all of 12 seconds after that at 9:15 for Young to cash in again off an assist from left winger Kevin Stevens.

At the 10:50 mark, left winger Phil Bourque scored the Penguins' 10th goal. Assists were credited to center Randy Gilhen and rookie right winger Jaromir Jagr.

The game's final goal was an unassisted shorthanded goal by center Jiri Hrdina at 18:28.

Notes:

-Barrasso recorded the win after making 38 saves.

-The three stars were: 1.) Lemieux 2.) Recchi 3.) Errey.

-Lemieux had his second consecutive four-point game.

-The Penguins fell one goal short of tying the franchise record for goals in a game.

-On the Penguins' offensive outburst, Young told the Post-Gazette: "I mean, I've seen some games like that on TV, but I've never played in one. Eleven goals in two periods? The floodgates opened."
