Penguins

-Happy 36th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Patrick Boileau. A free agent signing in the 2003 offseason, Boileau appeared in 16 games for the 2003-04 Penguins and recorded seven points. In the 2004 offseason, he joined Lausanne of the NLA in Switzerland.

-Happy 37th birthday to former Penguins forward Mathias Johansson. Acquired along with Micki DuPont in a trade that sent Shean Donovan to the Flames at the 2003 trade deadline, Johansson appeared in 12 games and recorded six points for the 2002-03 Penguins. In the 2003 offseason, he joined Farjestad of the Elitserien in Sweden. He currently plays for Ritten/Renon in Italy.

Atlantic Division

-A hat trick by former Penguins prospect Matt Moulson led the Islanders to a 5-1 win against the Panthers. Fire Ray Shero. Teammate Travis Hamonic recorded two assists while Al Montoya made 20 saves in the victory.

Northeast Division

-A shoulder injury is expected to end Senators forward Peter Regin's season.

-The Senators demoted goaltender Pascal Leclaire to Binghamton of the AHL for a conditioning assignment.

Southeast Division

-According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom suffered a fractured thumb last night.

-The Thrashers recalled forward Patrick Rissmiller from Lake Erie of the AHL.

Central Division

-A goal and an assist each by former Penguin Marian Hossa, Patrick Kane and captain Jonathan Toews led the Blackhawks to a 5-3 win at St. Louis. Teammates Ryan Johnson and Brent Seabrook each recorded two assists while Corey Crawford made 31 saves in the victory. Alex Pietrangelo netted a goal and an assist for the Blues.

-Blackhawks goaltender Marty Turco is sneaky:

-The Blues demoted defenseman Tyson Strachan to Peoria of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-The Flames placed forward Niklas Hagman on waivers.

-The Blues and Avalanche face off less than a week after the block buster Erik Johnson/Jay McClement for Kevin Shattenkirk/Chris Stewart trade.

-Avalanche forward Matt Duchene (right) is expected to return to the line up after missing two games due to a hand injury.

-Oilers defenseman Sheldon Souray cleared waivers.

-The Avalanche recalled forward Cody Hodgson from Manitoba of the AHL and demoted defenseman Evan Oberg to Manitoba.

Pacific Division

-"I'm just trying to get healthy. It's the first time I've been through something like this, and it's not fun. You have your moments during the day where you think you're turning the corner, and then you have another couple of hours where things are affected. It's a process, and patience is what I'm being told is the biggest thing I have to have right now, just let Mother Nature fix itself with my brain and whatever is going on.'' - Stars forward Brad Richards who is battling concussion symptoms.

-Kings forward Marco Sturm (right) is expected to return to the linup Wednesday after missing 12 games due to knee tendenitis.

-Two pretty hot teams face off tonight when the Coyotes meet the Flyers.

Has Ovechkin ever taken a slap shot and not fallen over? (It's quite effective for him, though).
