Penguins-Former Penguins forward Pete Laframboise passed away. He was 61. Acquired midway through 1974-75 in a deal which sent Ron Jones to the Capitals, his Penguins career amounted to 35 games and 18 points that season. During the 1975 postseason, he appeared in nine games and scored one goal. In the 1975 offseason, he joined the WHA's Edmonton Oilers as a free agent.

-Happy 35th birthday to former Penguins defeneman Nolan Baumgartner. Claimed off waivers from the Canucks prior to the start of the 2003-04 season, Baumgartner, appeared in five games for the Penguins that season and was a minus-7. A month into the season, the Canucks re-claimed him off waivers. He currently is the captain of Manitoba Moose, the Canucks' AHL affiliate.
-Happy 41st birthday to former Penguins forward Justin Duberman. A free agent signing in November of 1992, Duberman's entire NHL career amounted to four games with the 1993-94 Penguins. During the 1994-95 lockoutout, he joined JYP HT Jyvaskyla in Finland.
-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Michael Grabner had a goal and an assist for the Islanders in a 5-2 win at Tampa Bay. Milan Jurcina recorded two assists for New York while Al Montoya made 36 saves in the victory. Nate Thompson netted a goal and an assist for the Lightning. The Lightning is in fifth place of the Eastern Conference with 89 points, three fewer than the fourth-place Penguins.
-Save of the Night: Montoya on Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis:
-Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves for the Rangers in a 1-0 shutout of the Panthers. It was Lundqvist's league-high 10th shutout of the season. New York has won five consecutive games.

-Flyers forward Jody Shelley will be sidelined four weeks due to a broken orbital bone.
-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: A goal and two assists by captain Zdeno Chara led the Bruins to a 4-1 defeat of the Devils. Milan Lucic added a goal and an assist for Boston while teammates Patrice Bergeron and Tomas Kaberle each recorded two assists. Tim Thomas made 30 saves in the victory. The Bruins are in third place in the Eastern Conference with 90 points, two fewer than the Penguins.

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Ryan Miller made 31 saves for the Sabres in a 2-0 shutout of the Canadiens. Nathan Gerbe scored both of Buffalo's goals. The Canadiens are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 87 points, five fewer than the Penguins.
-James Reimer made 29 saves for the Maple Leafs in a 3-0 shutout of the Wild. Mikhail Grabovski had a goal and an assist for Toronto while teammate Nikolai Kulemin recorded two assists. Minnesota has lost seven consecutive games.

-The Senators recalled defenseman Patrick Wiercioch from Binghamton of the AHL.
-The Canadiens signed defenseman Joe Stejskal, a fifth-round pick in 2007, to a two-year entry-level contract.
-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Shootout goals by Matt Hendricks, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin gave the Capitals a 5-4 win at Philadelphia. Mike Knuble had a goal and two assists in regulation for Washington while Backstrom and Marcus Johansson each netted a goal and an assist. Michal Neuvirth made 29 saves in the victory. Claude Giroux and Andreas Nodl each recorded a goal and an assist for the Flyers. The Flyers are in first place in the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division with 97 points, five more than the Penguins who are in fourth and second place respectively. The Capitals are in seconds place in the Eastern Conference with 96 points.
