Penguins

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed defenseman Joe Rogalski (right) to an amateur tryout contract. Rogalski was a sixth-round pick in 2010.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has lost all four games against Binghamton this season by a combined score of 14-4.

-Peter Delmas made 29 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Florida Everblades.

-Penguins defensive prospect Viktor Ekbom, a sixth-round pick in 2009, signed a two-year contract with Tappara of the SM-liiga in Finland.

-Happy 47th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Ulf Samuelsson (right). Acquired from the Whalers along with Ron Francis and Grant Jennings at the 1991 trade deadline in a deal which sent John Cullen, Jeff Parker and Zarley Zalapski to Hartford, Samuelsson spent parts of five seasons in Pittsburgh. He finished 1990-91 by appearing in 14 games, scored five points and recorded 37 penalty minutes. In 20 postseason games that spring, he scored five points includling the Cup-clinching goal in an 8-0 win at Minnesota in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup final, May 25, 1991. His first full season with the Penguins was 1991-92. In 62 games, he scored 15 points and accumulated 206 penalty minutes. He saw action in 21 postseason games that spring and scored seven points while helping the franchise win its second Stanley Cup title. During 1992-93, Samuelsson appeared in 77 games, scored 29 points and recorded a career-high 249 penalty minutes. In 12 postseason games that spring, he scored six points. In 1993-94, Samuelsson saw action in 80 games, netted 29 points and recorded 199 penalty minutes. He played in six playoff games that season and recorded one assist. During the lockout-shortened 1994-95 campaign, Samuelsson appeared in 44 games and netted 16 points. In seven postseason games that spring, he recorded two assists. During the 1995 offseason, Samuelsson and Luc Robitaille were traded to the Rangers in exchange for Petr Nedved and Sergei Zubov. One of the most physical and popular players in franchise history, Samuelsson appeared in 277 regular season games with the Penguins and scored 94 points, 88th-most in franchise history and recorded 804 penalty minutes, eighth-most. In 66 postseason games, he scored 16 points. Currently an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes, his son Philip Samuelsson is a defensive prospect with the Penguins.

Atlantic Division

-With defensemen Anton Volchenkov and Colin White suffering "lower-body" injuries last night, the Devils recalled defenseman Jay Leach from Albany of the AHL.

-Islanders defenseman Andrew MacDonald will be sidelined three months due to a hip injury.

-The Islanders recalled defenseman Ty Wishart from Bridgeport of the AHL.

-Islanders forward Trevor Gillies is set to return from his 10-game suspension tonight. Hide the women and children.

Northeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Craig Anderson made 31 saves for the Senators in a 2-0 shutout of the Capitals. The Capitals are in second place in the Eastern conference with 96 points, just as many as the fourth-place Penguins.

-Two goals and an assist by Drew Stafford led the Sabres to a 4-2 win against the Panthers. Jason Pominville added a goal and an assist for Buffalo while teammate Tyler Ennis recorded two assists in the victory. Ryan Miller made 22 saves in the victory.

-The Sabres are 5-1-2 in their last eight home games.

-Sabres defenseman Steve Montador has missed three consecutive games due to a "lower-body" injury.

-Despite winning, the Senators were mathematically eliminated from postseason contention on account of the Sabres' victory.

-With a save percentage of .938, Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas has a chance to break the NHL record of .937 set by former Sabres' goaltender Dominik Hasek in 1998-99.

-The Senators recalled goaltender Mike Brodeur from Binghamton of the AHL and demoted forward Roman Wick to Binghamton.

Southeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Two goals by Erik Cole led the Hurricanes to a 4-3 win at Tampa Bay. Captain Eric Staal added a goal and an assist for Carolina while teammate Joni Pitkanen recorded two assists. Cam Ward made 18 saves in the victory. Simon Gagne scored two goals for the Lightning. The Lightning is in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 89 points, seven fewer than the Penguins.

-Lightning forward Steve Downie returned to the lineup after missing nine games due to knee and ankle injuries.

-The Capitals have been shut out for the 10th time this season.

-The Panthers demoted goaltender Tyler Plante to Rochester of the AHL.

-Panthers forward David Booth was briefly hospitalized after taking a puck to the throat in Buffalo. He traveled with the team to Pittsburgh.

-Florida was officially elimnated from the postseason for the 10th consecutive season.

Central Division

-The Red Wings signed forward Gustav Nyquist, a fourth-round pick in 2008, to a three-year entry-level contract.

Northwest Division

-Roberto Luongo made 30 saves for the Avalanche in a 3-1 win at Atlanta. Vancouver has won nine out of its past 10 games.

-The Canucks set a franchise record with their 107th point of the season.

-The Avalanche hired former captain Joe Sakic as an executive advisor and alternate governor.

-The Avalanche signed defenseman Tyson Barrie, a third-round pick in 2009, and goaltender Calvin Pickard, a second-round pick in 2010, to three-year entry-level contracts. Barrie is the son of former Penguins forward Len Barrie.

-Could former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton coach Todd Richards (right) lose his job as the Wild's head coach?

-The Wild demoted forward Warren Peters to Houston of the AHL.

Pacfic Division

-The Ducks recalled forward Matt Beleskey from Syracuse of the AHL.

NCAA Men's Tournament

-Jaden Schwartz had two goals and two assists for Colorado College in an 8-4 upset of No. 1 seed Boston College.

-Kenny Reiter made 32 saves for Minnesota-Duluth in a 2-0 shutout of Union.

-Chad Ziegler's overtime goal gave Yale a 2-1 win against Air Force.

-Kevin Lynch's overtime goal gave Michigan a 3-2 win at Nebraska-Omaha.
