Penguins

-An overtime goal and an assist by Bryan Lerg gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins a 3-2 win against the rival Hershey Bears. Brett Sterling recorded two assists for the Penguins while John Curry made 24 saves in the victory.

-The win clinched the third Atlantic Division title in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's history.

-Happy 58th birthday to former Penguins defensemn Dennis Owchar (right). A second-round pick in 1973, Owchar spent parts of four seasons with the Penguins. As a rookie in 1974-75, Owchar appeared in 46 games and scored 17 points. In six postseason games that spring, he recorded one assist. He followed that up in 1975-76 by playing in 54 games and once again netting 17 points. He saw action in two postseason games that season and failed to record a point. In 1976-77, Owchar played in 46 games and accumulated 23 points. After 22 games and 10 points in 1977-78, Owchar was traded to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Tom Edur. In 168 regular season games with the Penguins, Owchar recorded 67 points. In eight postseason games, he recorded one assist.

Atlantic Division

-The Flyers only picked up two out of a possible six points this past week against potential conference contenders in the Penguins, Bruins and Captials.

-Philadelphia also has a better winning percentage (.674) without injured defenseman Chris Pronger (right) than with him (.670).

-The Flyers are raising ticket prices for next season. A Flyers executive admitted the raise in the league's salary cap - you know... that thing Gary Bettman said he wanted in place to keep ticket prices low for fans - played a role in the increase.

-Devils coach Jacques Lemaire is leaving open the possibility of returning to coach next season.

Northeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Tim Thomas made 27 saves for the Bruins in a 2-1 win at Philadelphia. The Flyers are in first place of the Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division with 100 points, two more than the Penguin who are in fourth and second places resepectively with 98 points. The Bruins are in third place in the Eastern Conference with 94 points.

-Boston's Brad Marchand scored the game-winning goal late in regulation:

-Happy times for Marchand. Not so much fo Philadelphia's Brian Boucher or Kimmo Timonen:

-The Bruins clinched a playoff berth with the victory.

Southeast Division

-Captain Andrew Ladd's shootout goal led gave the Thrashers a 5-4 win against the Senators. Ben Maxwell and Blake Wheeler each had a goal and an assist in regulation for Atlanta while Chris Mason made 24 saves in the victory. Marek Svatos scored two goals for Ottawa.

-The Capitals demoted goaltender Braden Holtby to Hershey of the AHL.

-The Lightning demoted forward Blair Jones to Norfolk of the AHL.

Central Division

-With goaltender Jimmy Howard dealing with a sprained right shoulder, the Red Wings recalled goaltender Thomas McCollum from Grand Rapids of the AHL.

-Red Wings forward Johan Franzen (right) is expected to return to the lineup tonight after missing four games due to a groin injury.

-The Blue Jackets signed forward Cam Atkinson, a sixth-round pick in 2008, to a two-year, entry-level contract.

-The Blues signed forwards T.J. Hensick, Adam Cracknell and defenseman Ian Cole to Peoria of the AHL.

-St. Louis signed forward prospect Jay Barriball to an entry-level contract.

Northwest Division

-Two goals and an assist by Chris Higgins led the Canucks to a 4-1 win at Columbus. Mason Raymond added three assists for Vancouver while teammate Ryan Kesler recorded two assists. Cory Schneider made 39 saves in the victory. The Canucks reached the 50-win mark for the first time in franchise history.

-Canucks defenseman and would-be Penguin Dan Hamhuis left the game when he suffered his second concussion in two months:

Pacific Division

-In four starts with the Ducks, goaltender Ray Emery is 4-0 with a 1.39 goals-against average and .950 save percentage.

NCAA Men's Tournament

-Bryan Hextall and Brock Nelson each had a goal and an assist for North Dakota in a 6-1 defeat of Devner.

-Mike Johnson made 37 saves for Notre Dame in a 2-1 win against New Hampshire.

-The Frozen Four will feature Notre Dame versus Minnesota-Duluth and Michigan versus North Dakota.
