-How did the Capitals turn it around after their eight-game losing streak in December?
-Danny Cleary had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings in a 4-3 defeat of the rival Blackhawks. Teammate Todd Bertuzzi recorded two assists while Jimmy Howard made 33 saves in the victory.

-Jose Theodore made 26 saves for the Wild in a 5-3 defeat of the Stars. The loss cost the Stars a chance to clinch eighth place and a playoff berth in the Western Conference. Andrew Brunette and Miikko Koivu each recorded two assists for Minnesota. Former Penguin Alex Goligoski and Brad Richard each netted a goal and an assist for Dallas. Fire Ray Shero.
-"Coach Q in Chicago, he knows I have his back." - Theodore on Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville. The Wild win's enabled the Blackhawks to claim eighth place in the Western Conference. Theodore played for Quenneville in Colorado.
-A Canadiens fans at the game showed her enthusiasm for Dallas' offseason plans:
-An overtime goal and two assists by David Jones gave the Avalanche a 4-3 wins against the Oilers. Milan Hejduk added a goal and an assist for Colorado while teammate Matt Duchene recorded two assists. Peter Budaj made 25 saves in the victory. Kurtis Foster netted a goal and an assist for Edmonton.
-Late in the game, Avalanche fans offered a standing ovation for retiring captain Adam Foote who played in his final game:
-Foote actually played the game with a fracture ankle.
-The Canucks will meet the Blackhawks in the first round. Chicago has eliminated Vancouver in each of the past two postseasons.
-Canucks forward Daniel Sedin officially claimed the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer with 104 points while goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider claimed the William M. Jennings Trophy for allowing a league-best 2.80 goals against average.
-The Oilers demoted forwards Linus Omark, Chris VandeVelde, Ryan O’Marra, Teemu Hartikainen and defenseman Jeff Petry to Oklahoma City of the AHL.
-Flames defenseman Jeff Bouwmeester (right) has played in 635 regular season games and zero postseason games.
-“I mean, we have it right there, and we can’t beat a team that’s not even going to make the playoffs. It’s the worst feeling ever.” - Stars forward Adam Burish on missing the postseason as a result of losing to Minnesota yesterday.
-All three teams from California reached the postseason for the first time ever.
