-Happy times in Washington:

-Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara (right) was hospitalized due to dehydration. He is expected to play in tonight's Game 2.
-If you can imagine such a thing, a team which wears black and gold needs more offense from its first line.
-Daniel Sedin had two goals and an assist for the Canucks in a 4-3 win against the Blackhawks. Captain Henrik Sedin added two assists for Vancouver while Roberto Luongo made 23 saves in the victory. Ben Smith scored two goals for Chicago. The Canucks lead the series, 2-0.

-EN Says: One game? That's it? Weak.

-White is expected to miss Game 2 due to a head injury.
-Kings coach Terry Murray complained a hit by Sharks defenseman Jason Demers on Kings forward Ryan Smyth was “five times more severe” and deserved a suspension:
-EN Says: Murray is right. Demers launched himself at Smyth. But since Smyth didn't suffer some sort of life-altering injury, the NHL apparently can't be bothered to take action.
-With Stoll suspended, the Kings placed forward and Pittsburgh native John Zeiler on recall waivers.
-The NHL has asked Detroit police to enforce a local law which make it illegal for Red Wings fans to throw octopus on the ice at Joe Louis Arena.
-EN Says: The NHL cites player safety as a reason why it wants to eliminate the practice. Really? Safety? From the same league which promotes fighting? And allows some intentional checking to the head? Safety?
-EN Also Says: What makes this even more baffling is that the NHL's entire postseason advertising campaign is based on the term "History." Yet it is trying to crack down on one of the most historic and unique traditions in any sport?
-"It's a little ridiculous they're concerned about a tradition that goes on at our rink - or any other rink around the league for that matter. Do they want everybody coming to the rink and sit up on their hands and not do anything? It's gotten a little bit exaggerated. People are taking it a little bit too seriously." - Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood (above).
-Captain Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry each had a goal and two assists for the Ducks in a 5-3 defeat of the Predators. Bobby Ryan added two goals for Anaheim while teammates Francois Beauchimin and Cam Fowler each recorded two assists. Ray Emery made 31 saves in the victory. -Intense Face of the Night: Perry:

-Happy times for Ryan:

-Highlights courtesty of The Wilkes-Blog:

-Happy 48th birthday to former Penguins forward Dean Defazio. A ninth-round pick of the club in 1981, Defazio appered in 22 games for the 1983-84 Penguins and recorded two assists. After spending the next two seasons with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Baltimore, Defazio was released.
-Happy 37th birthday to former Penguins defenseman Harry York. Acquired early in the 1998-99 season along with Alex Kovalev in a deal which sent Petr Nedved, Chris Tamer and Sean Pronger to the Rangers, York appeared in all of two games for the Penguins that season. before he was claimed off waivers by the Canucks in December.
