For those hoping the NHL and NBC would divorce after half a decade of sub par coverage, you're in for a disappointment.
Both entities announced a 10-year deal which will make the Peacock (and Versus) the exclusive rights holder for the NHL through the 2020-21 season. According to the Globe and Mail, the deal is worth $2 billion over the life of the contract.

Booooo. Were there any details given about McGuire? I would tolerate this if he was forbidden from appearing on either network.

I shudder at the thought of ten more years of Pierre between the benches...
Only think I like about NBC/VS is when Doc Emerick consistently reminds Edzo that he was the Pens coach (worst ever I might add) and it just drives Edzo NUTS!

Excrement! Pierre is bad and so is the whole presentation of the sport by Versus.
Another thing that is bad. Fast Eddie Snyder, one of the Flyers owners, wanted this to happen in the worst way.

I miss the days of ESPN and Gary Thorne. I always watched the game regardless of who was playing just to listen to Thorne.

As much as it would be nice to have games back on ESPN, the NHL would have always been second-fiddle (maybe even third or fourth) to the NBA, MLB, or MNF. Heck, they even pushed hockey off the stove entirely for poker, for crying out loud! This is actually not a bad deal, for word is that now that Comcast is buying NBC, they will rename versus to something like NBC Sports Channel.
And here's another thing: suppose ESPN had won the NHL package. How many of you would be complaining that you couldn't see the Winter Classic or the Cup Finals on "free TV"?
