The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |
Penguins-Happy 38th birthday to former Penguins forward/antagonist Matthew Barnaby (right). Acquired at the 1999 trade deadline in a deal which sent Stu Barnes to the Sabres, Barnaby became one of the most popular players in franchise history despite only spending parts of three seasons in Pittsburgh. He finished the 1998-99 season with the Penguins by appearing in 18 games and recording four points and 18 penalty minutes. In 13 postseason games that spring, he did not record a point but accumulated 35 penalty minutes. The 1999-2000 campaign was his only full campaign in Pittsburgh and in 64 games, he netted 24 points and a team-high 197 penalty minutes. He saw action in 11 postseason games that season and recorded two assists. Despite only appearing in 47 games and recording five points in 2000-01, Barnaby still managed to lead the team with 168 penalty minutes. At the 2001 trade deadline, he was traded to the Lightning in exchange for Wayne Primeau. In 129 regular season games with the Penguins, Barnaby scored 33 points and accumulated 399 penalty minutes. In 24 postseason games, he recorded two assists and 64 penalty minutes. He currently works as broadcaster for ESPN and TSN.

The following offseason, he was traded to the Oakland Seals in exchange for cash.
-Dwayne Roloson made 29 saves and led the Lightning to a 4-3 win against the Capitals in Game 3. Tampa Bay has a 3-0 series lead. Captain Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist for Washington.
-Goal of the Night: Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos with a laser beam of a shot:
-If you can imagine such a thing, Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau complained after the game that the game-winning goal by Lightning forward and former Penguin Ryan Malone should not have counted.

-Vancouver's infamous Green Men made their way down to Nashville:

-“I had one hand on my stick and he grabs my stick, and I got a penalty." - Weber on a hooking penalty against Kesler which led to Kesler's overtime goal.
-"That ticky-tack in overtime is kind of tough. I don't know if the ref had to be somewhere tonight. It was a tough call to take; obviously Kesler is holding on to his stick. Webby's stick shouldn't be in there in the first place, but Kesler's holding on his stick and that's a pretty touchy call for overtime." - Nashville forward David Legwand on the penalty.
-After being a healthy scratch for the first two games of the series, forward Kris Draper is expected be in the lineup tonight for Game 3.
