The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |

One piece of the Penguins' free agency puzzle has been solved.
The team re-signed forward Craig Adams to a two-year contract worth a total of 1.35 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $675,000.
Adams, 34, appeared in 80 games last season and scored 15 points (four goals, 11 assists). A member of the team's 2009 Stanley Cup championship squad, Adams (6-foot-0, 197 pounds) has spent parts of the past three seasons with the Penguins.
A vital component of the league's best penalty killing unit, Adams led the team's forwards with 3:05 of shorthanded ice time last season.
Adams' previous contract gave him a salary capt hit of $550,000.
EN Says: Adams is a personal favorite of Dan Bylsma. he fits this team perfectly for what Bylsma wants from a fourth-line center. Adams is a prototypical grinder. He forecheck without reservation. He goes to the high traffic areas, hits, fights and can take faceoffs. Additionally, he's one of the smarter players in the Penguins' locker room.
Additionally, he's a remarkably durable player for someone who has a pretty physical game. He has only missed two games the past two seasons, both of which were healthy scratches.
He's the perfect player for the role the Penguins need him at.
And for $675,000, that's not a big chunk of salary in terms of the what the Penguins have left under the salary cap.
With Adams back in the fold, the presumed healthy returns of of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Dustin Jeffrey, and the emergence of Mark Letestu Joe Vitale, the Penguins have a lot of bodies at center. That doesn't bode well for the potential return of Maxime Talbot.
