A Stanley Cup championship by a team in black and gold has brought the career of one of the greatest players to ever wear the Penguins' black and gold to an end.
The Bruins got two goals each from Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron while Tim Thomas made 37 saves in a 4-0 shutout of the Canucks in Game 7 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Former Penguins forward Mark Recchi (above, with Bergeron), who recorded an assist on Boston's second goal, announced his retirement following the game. Recchi was the last member of the Penguins 1991 Stanley Cup championship team still active in the NHL.
Thomas won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. At 37, he is the oldest player to win the award.
The Bruins won the Cup for the first time since 1972. It was the second-longest active Cup-less streak in the NHL after the Maple Maple Leafs who haven't won since 1967.
