According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Wild will name former Penguins assistant coach Mike Yeo (right) as its next head coach.
After leaving the Penguins following the 2009-10 season, Yeo, 37, took over the Houston Aeros, Minnesota's AHL affiliate and directed that team to a 46-28-6 record and an appearance in the Calder Cup Final.
Yeo spent parts of five seasons as an assitant coach with the Penguins under head coaches Michel Therrien and Dan Bylsma. Yeo was a member of the team's 2009 Stanley Cup championship.
Prior to that, Yeo spent parts of six seasons as an assistant coach with the Penguins' AHL affiliate in Wikes-Barre/Scranton.
In Minnesota, Yeo will replace former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins head coach Todd Richards who had an 77-71-16 record in two seasons with the Wild. Minnesota's general manager is former Penguins assistant general manager Chuck Fletcher.
EN Says: The obligatory joke is to suggest the Wild don't value a good power play considering the Penguins' problems with the man advantage under Yeo. But the Penguins struggled plenty this past season without him. The Penguins problems in that area are larger than Yeo or any one coach.
Yeo is a sharp person and his results in Houston speak for themselves. This is good move for the Wild.
