The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |
We'll be previewing the seven NHL awards which count throughout the day. (Sorry Lady Byng fans.) Here we'll preview the Vezina Trophy which goes to "to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at this position." We will also be hosting a live chat for the awards show beginning at 7 p.m. Click here to join the fun.
Roberto Luongo, G - Vancouver Canucks (38-15-7, 2.11 goals against average, .928 save percentage, 4 shutouts)
Pekke Rinne, G - Nashville Predators (33-22-9, 2.12 goals against average, .930 save percentage, 6 shutouts)
Tim Thomas, G - Boston Bruins (35-11-9, 2.00 goals against average, .938 save percentage, 9 shutouts)
Who we'd vote for: Thomas. Statistics never truly tell the whole story, but Thomas' numbers are just too good to ignore. Especially since he set the NHL's single-season record for save percentage. Not Dominik Hasek. Not Patrick Roy. Not Martin Brodeur. Not Terry Sawchuk. Not Ken Dryden. Not Jacques Plante. Tim Thomas. Before he was Bruins' best player in their Stanley Cup run, Thomas was their best player in the regular season.
Who will win: Thomas for the reasons outlined above.

What are these guys thinking and how good of a job did Mr. Shero by signing MAF to such a decent contract?
