The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |
We'll be previewing the seven NHL awards which count throughout the day. (Sorry Lady Byng fans.) Here we'll preview the Hart Memorial Trophy which goes to "the player judged to be the most valuable to his team." We will also be hosting a live chat for the awards show beginning at 7 p.m. Click here to join the fun.
Corey Perry, RW - Anaheim Ducks (50 goals, 48 assists, 98 points, +9)
Daniel Sedin, RW - Vancouver Canucks (42 goals, 63 assists, 104 points, +30)
Martin St. Louis, RW - Tampa Bay Lightning (31 goals, 68 assists, 99 points, +3)
Who we'd vote for: Perry. He simply meant the most to his team, especially down the stretch. Without Perry turning it on late in the season, the Ducks aren't a playoff team. In addition to being the NHL's only 50-goal scorer this season, he led the league with 11 game-winning goals as well. Throw in the fact that he's a viable player shorthanded, and you have the best player (healthy) in the NHL in our opinion.
Who will win: Sedin. If you combine the facts that Sedin led the NHL in overall scoring and that he plays in a much more higher profile market than Anaheim, that will give Sedin the edge over Perry.
