The Penguins have re-signed forward Pascal Dupuis to a two-year contract worth a total of $3 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $1.5 million.

Dupuis, 32, appeared in 80 games last season and scored 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists). A key member of the team's league-best penalty killing unit, Dupuis averaged 2:24 of shorthanded ice time per game last season and led the team with four shorthanded goals.

A member of the 2009 Stanley Cup championship team, his previous salary cap hit was 1.4.

EN Says: This is a solid signing. Dupuis is a pretty versatile player. He can pretty much play on all four lines. And while he's hardly an ideal choice for the top line, Sidney Crosby has found a comfort level with Dupuis riding shotgun.

Dupuis was a major part of the team's excellent penalty killing unit last season. Additionally, he's a good citizen in the locker room, something the organization places a large value on.

Considering how lean the free agent market is looking, Dupuis probably could have received a considerable bump in salary for next season. He took less in order to stick with a good situation in Pittsburgh.

I'm totally on board with this decision. This seems to be the right player for the right price. He's isn't fancy but he is dependable. Interesting legacy the Hossa deal has left on the team!

If we sign Jagr, I guess look at it as who is more valuable? Dupuis or Kennedy? Dupuis kills penalties and TK hits the net more... I would go with Dupuis and the cap hit is good.

This is a move that makes a lot of sense if they intend to sign Jagr and let Kennedy go. Dupuis is versatile enough to play on the fourth line and spell Jagr on the top two in order to limit his minutes or play defense late in a game. Of course, this could be wishful thinking.

A great signing in my eyes. Mr. Shero did a great job and Mr. Dupuis saw what he has in Pittsburgh and took less money. Very reasonable gentlemen!
