The Penguins, hockey and more, by the PG's Seth Rorabaugh. |
One domino is removed and another is moved into place.
(Is that even a cliche?)
Within minutes of announcing they were moving on from Jaromir Jagr, the Penguins have re-signed unrestricted free agent forward Tyler Kennedy to a two-year contract worth a total of $4 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $2 million.
Kennedy, 24, appeared in 80 games and set career highs in goals (21), assists (24) and points (45).
EN Says: This is exactly what the team needed to do after moving on from Jagr. There aren't many 20-goal threats available in free agency and the team needed one from the right wing as the depth there is pretty lean.
Kennedy is never going to contend for a Rocket Richard Trophy, but 21 goals is 21 goals. He's hardly an elite sniper, but he doesn't hesitate to shoot the puck. And given how lean this free agency market is, $2 million for a 20-goal scorer is a bargain.
