Jaromir Jagr has joined the Philadelphia Flyers.

What?

Yes. For real.

One of the most beloved players in the history of the franchise (at one time) has just joined its mortal enemy.

No word yet on the money.

EN Says: Stunning. Just stunning.

Forget all the backround with this move with regards to the rivalry between the Flyers and Penguins. What sense does this make for the Flyers?

They got rid of forward Jeff Carter and Mike Richards due in part for their chemistry issues in the locker room. So they replace them with space cadet like Jaromir Jagr?

Jagr is still capable of being a 20-goal, 60-goal threat, but this just doesn't make sense in a lot of ways.

UPDATE: Per TSN, Jagr received $3.3 million.

So is this Jagr/Svoboda giving a certain hand gesture to the Penguins for pulling their offer from the table? Unbelievable. And he thinks he got a frosty reception before when he visited Pittsburgh?

Wow. I've never been one of those people who booed Jags. Thought it was a pretty douchey thing to do, to be honest. But right now, I'm rather wishing I had a voodoo doll. Not only did he jerk the Pens around for days on end, and act like a diva, but now he plays for the Flyers. All bets are off. He will now deserve the boos he gets whenever he visits, and I will be joining in with them from here in Hamilton.

i was always a Jagr defender, willing to overlook his shortcomings as a leader and his "tortured artist" personality because of his greatness on the ice. he had a chance to make things right before he is gone from the game for good and this is what he does. what a douche and his agent too

Now that it's clear that he's only here for the money...why would anyone want him?

We'll see how they like the return on their $3.3 mil investment when the old man breaks down after 50 games. Sorry to be bitter, but I am absolutely crushed. Can't believe one of my boyhood heroes would slap my favorite franchise in the face like this.

I think it's safe to say he's destroyed his legacy here. No retired numbers. No golf outings. No cigars and brandy with Mario. And the only BBQs he'll be a part of are the ones burning in effigy.

"Pariah" I think is the word used in this situation. The only thing that could be louder than the boos he will receive are cheers for a Stanley Cup win.

@Roboto No. It would not be worth a suspension. Let's not lose sight of our sport because of this notably unfortunate event. Reprehensible play is not excusable on any level or we're asking to lose Sid -- or anyone else -- for good due to similar events.

Not to sidetrack or get holier than thou here. But I think it's important we keep sight of that considering how close to home that issue is.

Here's hoping Orpik nails Jags with a few solid checks this year.

You have to say this for Jagr, the man has been consistent throughout his career. He has always been about getting every last nickel, first and foremost. Legacy, fan opinions, friendships(Mario) be damned. If the Taliban had a hockey team and offered more money than the Flyers, he'd be suiting up for the Kabul Krushers next fall.

Right on, kpa42. You can be mad, you can feel betrayed, but it's never OK to wish someone hurt or injured, and I would certainly hope that the Penguins organization continues to be classier than the Flyers.

I use to laugh every time I watched the clip of Kasper starting the end of Lindros' career, but since losing Sidney I have done a 180 in how I view hits to the head.

Simply beating whatever team Jagr is on is enough revenge for him quitting in the playoffs in 2001.

First I´m very happy that the Pens resigned Kennedy! A great move.

And then Jagr? This could cost him the retirement of number 68!

I already look forward to spring next year when the Pens officially end his career by elminating Philadelphia from the playoffs.

This guy is just about money.

I can possibly understand him wanting to get more money, but why didn't he just stay in the KHL and get even more? This move makes zero sense to me on a business level let alone personal marketing.

This isn't entirely about money, this feels to me like Jagr didn't feel wanted enough by Shero's offer and then was insulted when it was pulled off the table. Signing with the biggest rival seems like a "this is what you get for not wanting me enough" statement.

This is enough to bring me out of my summer hibernation.

What's incredible is that if you listen to Shero, Jagoff and his agent never even called with a counter. Really? I owe my hockey life to Mario and you don't counter? I have defended this guy forever as he was a hero to me growing up too. He now goes into the Jack#*$&#*$&* hall of fame. What a scumbag. Max I can understand even though it is incredibly painful. Jagr is officially dead to me.

I think you guys are taking this way too seriously. I'd say most here would take the money too (who knows what Jagr's gambling debts are these days). I was not a big fan of signing him, for reasons of regular season effort and durability at age 40. The Pens season next year will turn on 87's health and everything else is pretty much a sideshow. I'm also glad they reupped TK, but a little bummed they took Ash over Rupp.

I live in Hungary. Jagr was my hero, he got me into loving the Pittsburgh Penguins. Now my hero does this to us, fans? He slaps Mario in the face, too? It makes me wanna throw up.

I'll start saving up so I can be in Pittsburgh and boo the hell out of him on Dec 29.
