This just keeps getting more and more insane.

The NWO Flyers have signed former Penguins forward Maxime Talbot. According to TSN, The deal is for five years and $9 million. He will have a cap hit of $1.8 million.

In 82 games last season, Talbot scored 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists).

One of the more popular players in franchise history in recent years, Talbot was a member of the team's Stanley Cup championship team in 2009 and scored the Cup-clinching goal.

EN Says: Good for Talbot. He needed to get the best deal possible. He's not a player who is going to play 20 years. THe way he plays, he's going to wear himself out quickly. But to the Flyers?

As far as the Flyers go, a five-year deal for a player who had a decline last season? It's a questionable move in terms of the length.

No word yet if the Flyers will attempt to sign Les Binkley next.

Glad Shero didn't pay that. Totally not worth it.

Not mad. But very upset. Don't care what people say, Max has been a fan favorite for years and despite declining results on ice, would have been happy to see him cash in literally ANYWHERE else.

Very upsetting.

I don't know why I was worried about the Flyers having all of that cap room. Congrats to Max for cashing in. Congrats to the Flyers for consistently making themselves worse.

Wouldn't retaining Leino on a 3-5 year deal for $3.5-4 million a season have made more sense than rolling the dice on one season of Jagr? Maybe I'm just trying to find the silver lining, but hopefully the Flyers priced themselves out keeping him by signing 68.

Love Max.

But he can take a long walk off of a short pier.

He was given the chance to stay and took the cash in spite of him running his mouth over and over about how much he wanted to stay here.

Jagr is really no surprise. He was never a good human being.

But, if you just want the money just admit...Talbot found the only way he could be hated here.

I'll still rock my Max jersey with pride. Just a bit of sadness mixed in. Won't forget what he did for us. Just hate seeing a guy go to the dark side like that. Really do.

Paul Coffey, Kevin Stevens and Ulf Samuelsson played for the Flyers after leaving here and we got over that. We'll get over this too.

Well stated, Goat. Short of heinous dirty hits to current Penguins, I'm not gonna jump ship on Max. He's just going to be dead to me while he's rocking the orange. In fact, I'll probably just boo Jagr all the harder to make up for it. NJ-touching jerks in Philly anyhow...

I will not hate on Max, he's got his cup, so now he can get some money. He isn't ever going to be a rock star and Philly overpaid for him. Good for him.

I certainly won't root for him as a Flyer, but when he moves on from them or retires, he'll still be a favorite of mine.

How many times did Max say it wasn't about the money?

How many times did Max say all he wanted was to stay in Pittsburgh?

How often did Max mention his genuine hatred for the Flyers?

In the end, he chased the bucks just like Jagr.

Tyler Kennedy never flapped his gums about how much he wanted to stay, he just did it.

Max is a disingenuous hypocrite. Great guy, but he's full of it.

I would have offered Max $1.8 million as well.

Over THREE years.

The Flyers just paid almost $2 million for a 4th liner.

Geez. No way we should be blaming Max for taking this deal. It's 9 million flipping dollars. Would any other team offer him a similar figure, like, ever. It's unlikely.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember him promising to take less to stay in Pittsburgh this time around. And mind you, I'm pretty sure he *would* have taken less to stay a Penguin, if the Penguins were willing to offer him at least a 3-year deal (which they reportedly weren't).

It hurts to see him going to Philly? Sure does. But that's no reason to hate the guy, or call him a hypocrite.

Unless he shows disrespect in the future, or talks to much, or goes dirty against the Pens, I'll wish him all the best. And the best I wish him right now is to be a great player in a non-playoff team.

(Keep in mind also that this is a deal that has a bigger chance of being bad to the Flyers than good, so we might end up having a few laughs about it later).
