Former Penguins forward Mike Rupp has joined the rival Rangers. He agreed to a three-year deal worth $4.5 million. He will have a salary cap hit of $1.5 million.

Rupp, 31, appeared in 81 games last season and scored 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) while recording 124 penalty minutes.

He spent the past two seasons with the Penguins after being a signing in the 2009 offseason.

EN Says: After the Penguins re-signed Arron Asham earlier this week, Rupp became a smaller priority. Rupp has a unique skill set in that he's a huge man at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds and can fight the true heavyweights of the NHL while being able to play regular shifts. He can give you upwards of 10 minutes a game.

With Rupp and potentially Eric Godard leaving, the Penguins may want to address finding a regular enforcer for the fourth line.

With Rupp leaving I wonder if Godard staying hasn't come back into the picture?
