The Penguins have re-signed restricted free agent forward Dustin Jeffrey to a two-year contract. The deal is two-ways in the first year and one-way in 2012-13. He will have a salary of $575,000 each season at the NHL level.

Jeffrey, 23, appeared in 25 NHL games last season and scored 12 points (seven goals, five assists). In 40 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Jeffrey scored 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists).

A sixth-round pick in 2007, his season came to an end last when he suffered a knee injury March 24 at Philadelphia. He is expected to miss the start the start of 2011-12 as a result of the ailment.

EN Says: Jeffrey is part of the team's immediate future on the top two lines. He has a scoring touch and has demonstrated it at each the NHL and AHL levels. Additionally, he offers vesatility as he is cable of playing all three forward positions. Assuming he recovers from his ailment and is back up to speed, expect to see Jeffrey in the mix to see some time on the top two lines.

Jeffrey at $575,000 over the next two years makes a whole lot more sense to the team than Talbot at $1.5 mil over the next 5.

Looking forward to seeing Jeffrey and Tangradi play a more significant role this fall.

He also kills penalties. He had six short handed goals at WBS last year.

I don't think that Jeffrey is supposed to be ready to start the season.

At any price, I'd rather have Jeffrey than Talbot.

I still say the 3 center model is best...and why mess with success...

With Tangradi in the AHL and Jeffrey the 13th guy once healthy. Hopefully, he can be back by the time Sullivan is hurt.

Don't like the idea of breaking the Cooke-Staal-Kennedy combo up.

I think Sullivan has to be in the top 6 to be a factor.

They wouldn't really put Kunitz & Dupuis on the top line again, would they? Agree that Sullivan probably needs top 2 line minutes to be effective.

I like Letestu better as a 3rd line center more than a 4th line guy. Maybe Staal and Malkin on the same line would be the way to go. Lots of options for Disco Dan, once everybody gets healthy this lineup looks to provide some flexibility, at least on paper.
