The Stars signed former Penguins forward Eric Godard (right) to a two-year contract. The first year is a two-ways while the second is one way. He will have a salary cap hit of $725,000 at the NHL level.
A free agent signing by the Penguins in 2009, Godard spent the past three seasons with the franchise and was a member of the 2009 Stanley Cup championship team.
In 2010-11, Godard 31, appeared in 19 games, and recorded three assists with 105 penalty minutes.
In 135 games with the Penguins, Godard 6-foot-4, 214 pounds, recorded 10 points (three goals, seven assists) and 352 penalty minutes.
EN Says: The Penguins clearly wanted to move on without Godard but their lack of interest thus far of finding a replacement enforcer type to fill the void by the departures of Godard and Mike Rupp is a bit peculiar. Defenseman Deryk Engelland is still around to handle the big boys in the NHL but for a team which was second in the NHL with 71 fighting majors, they don't have any candidates to be a prototypical fourth-line enforcer.
