Here is your replacement for Eric Godard and Mike Rupp.

The Penguins have signed former Oilers forward Steve MacIntyre, 30, to a one-year two-way contract. It will have a salary cap hit of $600,000 at the NHL level.

MacIntyre, 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, appeared in 34 NHL games last season and recorded one assist along with 93 penalty minutes.

According to HockeyFights.com, MacIntyre engaged in seven fights last season and went 4-1-2.

MacIntyre has spent parts of four seasons in the NHL with the Oilers and Panthers.

EN Says: There's no question marks to this guy's game. He's an enforcer plain and simple. Don't expect this guy to play more than five minutes a game. He simply offers nothing other than the ability to fight.

You might question the Penguins' need to employ a full-time enforcer, even on a two-way contract, but in a division with the likes of Trevor Gillies and Jody Shelley gainfully employed by the Islanders and Flyers respectively, the Penguins need their own goon.

Sorry to see Godard go, I respect his decision to come off the bench against the Islanders. Was sad to see him not play again...

Glad to see it (finally). As you mentioned, we DO have to play the Islanders and the Flyers, to name a few. Don't count on the league changing that much. I would have much rather found a way to keep Rupp, may not have been as good a fighter, but he could play more than 5 minutes a game, in multiple rolls. When all is said and done they will miss him more than anyone, including Jagr.

I enjoyed Godard quite a bit, and wish the best to MacIntyre. But I'm not gonna lie, I don't like to see I guy employed to just drop the gloves. The NHL makes some of its own problems. Until they take a hard line stance on headshots, keep some fists on the bench.
