-Happy 68th birthday to former Penguins forward Glen Sather (right). Acquired from the Bruins during the 1969 offseason through an intra-league draft, Sather spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins. In 1969-70, Sather appeared in all 76 of the team's games and scored 26 points. In 10 playoff games that spring, he contributed two assists. Sather played in 46 games and scored 11 points in 1970-71 before being traded to the Rangers in exchange for Syl Apps, Jr. and Sheldon Kannegiesser. Ironically, given Sather's current position as the much-maligned general manager of the Rangers, it would turn out to be most lopsided trades in the history of either franchise as Apps became an all-star. "Slats," who won four Stanley Cup titles as the head coach of the Oilers in the 1980s, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997. In 122 regular season games with the Penguins, Sather scored 37 points.

-Happy 31st birthday to former Penguins goaltender Dany Sabourin (right). A free agent signing in the 2005 offseason, Sabourin spent parts of three seasons with the Penguins in two seperate stints. In 2005-06, Sabourin only saw action in one game. He gave up four goals in 21 minutes of action and suffered a loss. Prior to the 2006-07 season, he was claimed off waivers by the Canucks and spent that campaign in Vancouver as Roberto Luongo's back-up. The Penguins re-signed him in the 2007 offseason. In 2007-08, Sabourin appeared in 24 games and had a 10-9-1 record with a 2.75 goals against average, .904 save percentage and two shutouts. After 19 games, a 6-8-2 record, 2.85 goals against average and .898 save percentage in 2008-09, Sabourin was traded midway through the season to the Oilers along Ryan Stone and a draft pick in exchange for Mathieu Garon. In 44 games with the Penguins, "Sabu" had a 16-18-3 record with a 2.88 goals against average, .899 save percentage and two shutouts. He is currently a member of the Capitals organization.

-Happy 46th birthday to former Penguins forward Kevin Miller. Acquired at the 1996 trade deadline in a deal which sent a draft pick to the Sharks, Miller's Penguins career amounted to 13 games and 11 points for the 1995-96 club. In the postseason, he appeared in 18 games and contributed five points. In the 1996 offseason, he signed as a free agent with the Blackhawks. A member of a the noted Michigan State Miller family, Miller's brother Kip spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins.
