The Penguins cut 13 players from their training camp roster today:
Forwards Brandon DeFazio, Brian Gibbons, Ben Street, Paul Thompson, Geoff Walker, defensemen Simon Despres (above), Alex Grant, Joey Mormina, Philip Samuelsson, Carl Sneep and goaltender Patrick Killeen.
Forwards Tom Kuhnhackl (Windsor- OHL) and Dominik Uher (Spokane - WHL) were assigned to their junior teams.
EN Says: Despres is the only name which jumps out at you among this group. While he has hardly had a spectacular camp, he nearly made the NHL roster out of training camp last year.

Right move, wasn't going to see big NHL minutes. Let him be a top-four d-man in WBS.

Well said, Bones.
I saw Despres at the rookie tourney ... he's gonna be fantastic, but can use some seasoning. You don't often see a guy that big skate like he can, though. I was pretty impressed. IIRC Letang made the team out of camp but got sent back to juniors too, then started the next year in WBS. Lots of time for this kid.
